Luda Ivanova

Luda Ivanova was born in a small Russian town near Pskov, famous for its rich cultural traditions and history. As a little girl, she was introduced to the best examples of classic Russian iconography. In a country where religious practice was forbidden, many considered her privileged to have a grandmother who took her to church every Sunday. The beautiful 16th century Russian Orthodox cathedrals, whose walls were rich with religious icons and paintings of saints, artistically inspired her for the rest of her life.

Luda began painting at age 14, and like many budding artists, experimented with different media and subject matter. Over the years she explored the potential of various media including pastels, oil paints, watercolors and woodcarvings.

Luda presently works in the encaustic medium (beeswax combined with acrylic paint) as she appreciates its inherent qualities of texture and transparent color.
