David Thai

"Glass is the medium that best reflects my innermost feelings.  When approaching glass in it's fluid state I am deeply moved by the metamorphosis from a molten state to the solidified shape of my design."

David Thai finds inspiration in the works of the Italian master glassblowers and designers.  The intricate cane work and use of precious metals inspires him to continually evolve his work. 

Through exploration of the traditional techniques he attempts (and succeeds) to create a subtle balance of craftsmanship and concept.  There are times when working with the molten glass that even David is surprised at where the finished work has taken him.

One unique feature of the work of David Thai is the use of silver foil on the surface of the blown glass.  This silver foil is specially ordered from Japan.

David Thai currently resides in the suburbs of Toronto, Ontario Canada.  He has been living in Canada since 1985 when he emigrated there from Vietnam.  In 2002 David graduated from Sheridan College in the Crafts and Design Glass Program.  Upon graduation he was accepted as a full-time resident of the prestigious Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, a place that is renowned for it's in house artist programs.

David has been an instructor in glass blowing at The Harbourfront Centre, The Living Arts Centre and more recently at the Kingston Glass Studio & Gallery.
